01The problem

The store ran on an off-the-shelf marketplace script: an old Laravel version, unused themes and libraries weighing down every page, jQuery loaded store-wide, and a third-party script on the checkout pages served from a domain that had been sold and started shipping malicious code. On top of that the storefront did not look like the brand, and Saudi shoppers browse in Arabic on their phones.

02What we built

We upgraded the store to Laravel 13 and PHP 8.4 and built Kayan its own right-to-left Arabic storefront and visual identity. Dead themes and libraries came out, the third-party script left the checkout pages, and the storefront moved from jQuery to light vanilla JavaScript. Tamara instalments were wired in with every callback verified before an order is accepted, and critical flows such as the cart and point of sale are covered by automated tests.

  • Public assets cut from 57.9 MB to 20.7 MB
  • Upgraded to Laravel 13 and PHP 8.4, with 238 automated tests

FAQ

About this project

  • Is Kayan a store or a marketplace?

A multi-vendor marketplace: every seller has a panel for their products and orders, the admin has a separate panel, and a point of sale handles in-store selling.

  • How are payments handled?

Tamara instalments are supported, and every gateway callback is verified before an order is accepted, so forged or unanswered callbacks are rejected.

  • What changed in the store?

It was upgraded to Laravel 13 and PHP 8.4, given its own Arabic identity and storefront, and stripped of legacy themes, libraries and jQuery, cutting public assets from 57.9 MB to 20.7 MB.

  • Can you build a store like it for me?

Yes. Whether a single-brand store or a multi-vendor marketplace, we start with discovery to settle the payment and shipping providers you need, followed by a fixed quote.
